MONFORTE LODGE

Monforte d'alba, langhe

Three holiday homes in the heart of the Langhe for a retreat of absolute peace

Three enchanting lodgings in two buildings with an ancient soul, embraced by a breathtaking panorama: Alta Langa Vayadù houses are a place of peace and silence, in which you can experience a slow and regenerating time.

The landscape

Those who – like me – were born among these hills know that each Langa has its own personality. When I climbed between the rows of vines to these little houses, just six minutes from Monforte d’Alba, I met one of the most beautiful views of the Barolo and white truffle region.

Here your gaze reaches far into the distance: it passes over a large wood populated by badgers and roe deers, flies over the vine-grown slopes and their geometries, until it reaches the mist in the valley. And on sunny days it embraces no fewer than 11 Langa villages!

The private garden

The outside of the property is fenced in with vineyard poles and steel cables: a grape-free row in dialogue with its landscape. The Langa stone walkways alternate with borders planted with indigenous essences and quince saplings: even in the garden, every detail is in harmony with the land that hosts it, starting with the absence of herbicides for the cultivation of the lawn and an irrigation system that uses water from the well.

The outside architecture

From the road, there is immediate access to the two ciabot, small houses that were once used as temporary lodgings for the farmers who cultivated the vineyards and that have now been converted into refined, state-of-the-art holiday homes. Thanks to a conservative renovation, in fact, these small buildings have become low environmental impact facilities without losing their ancient soul.

A deep respect for the origins that I found even in the choice of colours: the railings of the terraces and the outside plasters recall the tones of the wet Langa soil, to the point that when it rains it becomes difficult to distinguish them.

Two out of the three housing units open up to the outdoor garden on the ground floor and to a large terrace overlooking the rows of vines on the first floor, to feel the embrace of nature at every moment of the day. Be it a slow breakfast or a glass of Barolo in good company while the sunset is turning the sky red.

The interior spaces

The interior choices also wink at the natural context and history of these places. From the clay walls to the lime plasters, from the living area in untreated wood to the handmade terracotta floor: every detail seems to tell of a time that has left its mark.
The furnishings in all the accommodations speak the same rustic, autumnal language, alternating more contemporary pieces with old, restored furniture.

Two buildings, 3 accommodations

Equipped with every comfort, these holiday homes amidst the rows of vines of Alta Langa are the ideal accommodation for a regenerating retreat, whether for a few days’ getaway or a long holiday, slow time marked only by the rhythm of the countryside or alternating relaxation and smart working.

The two ciabots host 3 accommodations – 2 flats and 1 attic studio – which can be booked together or separately. This is why they become a suitable solution for groups of all sizes: from a romantic couple’s getaway to a large family reunion, from a weekend with a few close friends to an unforgettable retreat with all the friends.
Close but separate, the Ciabot houses in the vineyard allow to alternate moments of privacy and conviviality.
